The Transportation Assistant will serve with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) and will operate within the Service located at the Anchorage VA Health Care System and will report directly to the Supervisor, Mobility Manager at the VA Medical Center.

Duties

Major duties of the position include but are not limited to: You will perform work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling. Daily responsibilities include collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS). You will review documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. You will coordinate service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas. You will administer quality monitors to be utilized in the internal consultation process to measure the success of efforts to provide seamless care and to support the education of staff in the proper use of the electronic record, to include internal consultation processes. You will plan and direct programs that provide support services functions and require the application of specialized knowledge and skills. You will respond to "action required" notifications, insuring the primary providers are correct. Coordinates the day-to-day operation of VTS program flow, processes and functions. You will provide advisory services to the Supervisor regarding the requirements and implications of the office services provided. You will provide advice to operating managers and supervisors on how provided services assist in accomplishing their missions and programs. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 09/14/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience assisting patients, their representatives, and staff with questions related to government rights and benefits under a body of law; experience performing work independently in conformance with all directives, regulations, and policies; experience handling conflicts and problems with internal and external customers appropriately; experience arranging and coordinating services for customers, and ensuring that the service has been complete; and experience documenting and processing paperwork for services provided to customers. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have graduate level education directly related to the duties of the position. Note: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. .
