This position is located at: 24 ANALYSIS SQ, PATRICK AFB, FL The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that treaty monitoring sample data are evaluated and reported completely and timely for national and international authorities. Under the direction of the Nuclear Assessments Chief, supports materials monitoring programs to carry out national and international treaty monitoring missions.

Duties

This is a GG-13 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-13 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Senior" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. ***Salary Ranges includes local market supplement*** DUTIES: Performs professional scientific work in the areas of atomic and nuclear phenomena, radiation, and chemistry/chemical engineering. Collaborates with national and international expert physicists, chemists, and nuclear engineers on the most complex or highly unusual issues of high importance to policymakers. Applies engineering and statistical knowledge on the effectiveness of data analysis and evaluation methodology and software. Advocates for the organization's position on nuclear monitoring issues.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 0840 Nuclear Engineer Successfully completed a professional engineering degree: The curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum or include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS. Physics 1310 A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. or B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience, or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. Chemistry 1320 A. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. Professional knowledge of chemistry, physics, and nuclear data evaluation requirements and methods. Knowledge of and skill in the use of mass spectrometers, electron microprobes, scanning electron microscopes, and other ultra-trace analytical techniques. Knowledge and skill to initiate, evaluate, and advise on laboratory processing and analysis techniques. Skill in the evaluation, interpretation, and reporting of laboratory data with regard to the significance of trace amounts of nuclear effluents in samples. Ability to analyze conflicting information from multiple sources and work well in an operational environment with critical deadlines to develop and evaluate non-traditional and/or new laboratory methods and data evaluation and visualization techniques, which may deviate from standard commercial operating procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to convey highly technical concepts and results to technical and non-technical audiences.
