Primary purpose of this position is: Technical expert responsible for development of analytical tools and to provide the necessary operational analysis of data collected from satellites that form the core of the global space collection capability against nuclear events. Organizational location of this position is: Air Combat Command, 16th Air Force, Air Force Technical Applications Center, 709th Surveillance and Analysis Group, 23d Analysis Squadron, Patrick SFB, FL 32925

Duties

As a Senior Analyst for AFTAC's Atmosphere and Space Program (ASP), is responsible for reviewing the engineering and development of new operations-oriented space sensors and systems used in the detection of nuclear events. As a Senior Nuclear Detection Analysis within the Atmosphere and Space Program, attends briefings and workshops at HQ Air Force, Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), Strategic Command (STRATCOM), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Department of Energy (DoE), Arms Control Verification Committee, and other national-level agencies and committees. Participates in the establishment of technical requirements for the collection, transmission and analysis of all command mission satellite-borne nuclear detonation data and defines the form best suited to accomplish the mission. Scientific/Engineering expert on atmosphere and space detection phenomenology and the resulting unique data evaluation as it relates to possible treaty violations. Participates in the preparation, edit, and publishing of scientific reports, notes, and other technical documents resulting from assigned studies, operational exercises, requests for information, and from studies and/or data analysis.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions. This is a GG-13 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-13 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the 13 grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: NUCLEAR ENGINEER GG-0840 Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering PHYSICIST GG-1320-13 Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. ELECTRONICS ENGINEER GG-0855-13Degree: Engineering. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: Position is designated special-sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
