About the Position: Join us at the United States Southern Command. We provide direct support to a four-star unified Combatant Commander, but are compact enough that our staff also works with senior leadership representatives of our inter-service, inter-agency and (public and private) international partner organizations. Our contribution to furthering our country's relationships with South and Central American nations and peoples are substantial.
Duties
Conduct strategic level analysis, either independently or with a multi-disciplinary team of senior analysts, to interpret: joint, IA, IO, inter-governmental, and multinational policy and guidance on specific command lines of effort.
Negotiate skills to ensure organization and partner agencies agree on areas of mutual interest which may include conflict resolution processes, resource requirements, and information-sharing protocols.
Lead assessment process, integrating DoD, IA, and IO measures of performance and effectiveness together to inform operational, exercise, and programmatic adjustments.
Interpret the National Defense Strategy, National Military Strategy, and Theater Strategy to properly plan and execute IA and IO integration into command operations and exercises.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires travel away from the duty station up to 20% of the time.
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a Top Secret SCI.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP), incumbent is subject to a drug test prior to appointment and random drug testing thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in strategic analysis; either independently or with a multi-disciplinary team of senior analysts, to interpret: joint, IA, IO, inter-governmental, and multinational policy and guidance on specific command lines of effort. Experience in Interagency (IA) and International Organization (IO) coordination, planning, as well as Department of Defense (DoD) operations and exercises. Experience translating national policy directives, DoD policy, and organization guidance into measurable, attainable, and feasible courses of action. Experience interpreting the National Defense Strategy, National Military Strategy, and Theater Strategy to properly plan and execute IA and IO integration into command operations and exercises. Experience providing strategic appraisals for the Departments of Defense, State, as well as other U.S. Government (USG) agencies on current and future development of collaborative operations and exercise integration. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
