You will serve as a COMPUTER SCIENTIST in the ALRE Department, Information Systems Division, ADMACS SW & Infrastructure Branch (BL13200) of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Lakehurst (NAWCADLKE). This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will research, design, development, testing, evaluation, and acquisition of computer-controlled support equipment. You will apply an in-depth knowledge of computer theory, algorithms, data structures, programming concepts, development and maintenance of systems software. You will serve as computer scientist responsible for the design, code, maintenance, test and implementation of network and software within the assigned system. You will perform software design and development while being required to have a working knowledge of all aspects of software designs as they relate to Navy shipboard information systems development.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area Software Developer (621) level Basic within 12 months of appointment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Applying in-depth knowledge of computer theory, algorithms, data structures, programming concepts, development and maintenance of systems software for various applications; 2. Designing, coding, maintaining, testing and implementing network and software within assigned systems; 3. Participating in software requirement analysis, design and implementation, while providing advice and assistance on applications; and 4. Using, installing, patching, and configuring physical and virtual Windows and Linux operating systems. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
