This position is located in the Electrical Section at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, a division of the VA Maryland Health Care System. The incumbent leads work at the journeyman level and is responsible for maintaining all electrical equipment throughout the Medical Center, elevators, and related equipment. The incumbent will lead three (3) WG-2805-10 Electricians, two (2) WG-2805-8 Electrical Workers, and one (1) WG-2805-5 Electrical Helper.

Duties

Major Duties May Include: Serves as work leader, assuring the work assignments of employees in the unit are carried out. Distributes and balances workload and tasks among employees, to include special projects, routine work orders, and preventive maintenance. Assures the timely accomplishment of work assigned to the team. Assures each team member has an integral role in developing the final product or providing the assigned service. Makes day-to-day adjustments in work assignments and schedules. Monitors the status and progress of work and makes adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Obtains assistance from the supervisor as needed for major issues or problems which arise. Checks work in progress to see that the supervisor's instructions have been met. Maintains records of work accomplishments. Ensures employees enter detailed service accounts, such as time and material expenses necessary to record equipment service records, on work order documents daily in order to maintain a realistic account of work accomplished. Reports to the supervisor on individual performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on any performance problems. Informs employees of available services and employee activities. May approve up to 8 hours of leave in emergency situations, only when the supervisor is absent. Sees to working conditions such as seating, ventilation, safety conditions, etc. Ensures that employees work in a safe manner and in safe working conditions per industry standards. Initiates orders for materials and services. The incumbent is responsible and subject to callback during off duty hours for irregular and emergency situations. The incumbent may be required to provide labor services that may include snow removal, cleaning, or other functions on an as needed basis. The incumbent is responsible for testing the emergency generator system once a month and maintaining a preventive maintenance check on the entire system every two weeks or as prescribed by the Chief, Facilities and Engineering Service. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
