This position is located at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, a Department of Veterans Affairs Facility. The incumbent serves as an Electrical Supervisor and Electronics Supervisor. The incumbent of this section must plan, review and schedule all work pertinent to the electrical distribution, as well as maintain all electronic maintenance and repairs related to patient care, such as power plant controls, HVAC Controls, Fire Alarms, and elevators.

Duties

Duties Include: The incumbent is the Master Electrician of Record and supervises skilled and licensed Electricians, Electrical Workers and Helpers, and Electronics Mechanics in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic wiring systems and equipment used in communications, lighting and power, including but not limited to switch gear up to 480-volts, transformers, transmission buses for low voltage distribution, secondary sub-panels, alarm and signal circuits, elevators, and six Standby Level 1 Emergency generators according to specifications in the National and State Electrical Codes and National Electrical Safety Code. repairs by interpreting complex blueprints and AutoCAD drawings, and specifications. Furnishes technical details and information if not readily available or understood by subordinates. Ensures that electrical and safety standards, procedures, and techniques are followed by subordinate staff, in accordance with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 99, and NFPA 101, and Joint Commission Environment of Care Standards. Uses independent judgement to assure the least amount of electrical interruption possible. Performs repair work and construction with little or no supervision during progress. The Maintenance and Operations Supervisor may check overall work when necessary to ensure that it meets required standards. Plans weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. Ensures 100% completion of monthly Preventative Maintenance to test all category 5-10 pieces of equipment, ensure proper operation, perform any necessary preventative repairs, and record processes on numerous documents and in VISTA. Responsible for maintaining the 10,000-gallon underground diesel storage tank, including tank integrity testing, fueling, record keeping, and maintaining the automatic tank gauge. Collaborates closely with GEMS and Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) for transparency of system operations. Ensures completion of annual and tri-annual fuel quality inspections and records test results for MDE. Establishes deadlines, priorities, work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules and short- and long-range plans developed, and policies established by higher levels of supervision. Determines resource requirements, materials, the number of staff, and the types of skills necessary to accomplish long-range work schedules. Allocates resources and distributes work to groups under incumbent's control. Serves as a working, first line supervisor of an Electrical Shop consisting of skilled and licensed Electricians, Electrical Workers and Helpers, and an Electronics Shop section employing Electronics Mechanics. Electrician staff work with electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment in industrial, institutional, office, and residential buildings, and are focused on higher-voltage systems providing power, from 480-13,000 volts. They require knowledge and application of electrical principles, materials, and safety standards, and use tools such as ohmmeters, vacuum tube voltmeters, and diode checkers. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
