You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Public Works Department in the MAINTENANCE AND ENGINEERING PROGRAM of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will use database management and tracking systems (e.g., Maximo or similar systems) to track workflow and equipment. You will use measuring devices and inspection techniques to perform quality assurance processes on mechanical components. You will brief sponsors, contractors and team members to convey program requirements. You will collaborate with customers and contractors to prepare job plans or contract work statements to ensure that the scope of work is mutually understood. You will advise leadership on technical requirements based on the results of inspections or assessments. You will develop detailed job plans for construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of facilities. You will document cost estimates for technical engineering activities. You will create written documents (e.g., specifications, test requirement documents, drawings) to outline recommendations for modifications or alterations.

  • Must possess a valid California slate driver's license.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as a Career Field Facilities Engineering Level II. Certification is required within 24 months of appointment.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing recurring planning, estimating, and corrective maintenance for small, medium, and large maintenance/inventory/repair/replacement projects; 2) Preparing cost estimates and job plans in sufficient detail to show specific mechanical equipment, material and personnel requirements for maintenance, inventory, repair, and replacement of facility equipment; 3) Using software such as Maximo, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word to accomplish cost estimate and equipment inventory requests; 4) Reading and applying understanding of as-built drawings for facilities mechanical equipment inventories; 5) Applying understanding of facility mechanical equipment life cycle processes related to Infrastructure Condition Assessment Program (iCAP) and projected future funding; and 6) Facilitating safety practices and industry building codes.
