Duties

You will perform Installations, analyses, evaluations and functions in support of the Diesel Readiness System (DRS). You will examine diesel engine systems / equipment onboard ships and ashore (such as Land Based Test Sites and Regional Maintenance Facilities) by inspection, testing, and discussions. You will coordinate inspection, testing, and discussions with operating and manufacturing personnel to determine conformance of systems / equipment to documented configuration, operational standards and specification requirements. You will diagnose diesel engine systems / equipment malfunctions and initiating / directing corrective actions and overhauls. You will advise/instruct Intermediate Maintenance and operating personnel on methods of effecting repairs, alteration and modifications to systems / equipment, as well as on the operations of systems / equipment. You will provide Fleet Feedback (i.e., supply problems, technical feedback reports and technical manual deficiency/evaluation reports) and identify problems with systems / equipment technical manuals and maintenance requirement cards (MRCs). You will analyze problems and deficiencies and determine corrective action(s). You will advise Fleet personnel on proper methods of systems / equipment repair, maintenance and operation. You will provide technical inputs for the revision of technical manuals and MRCs accordingly.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Comprehensive practical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices applicable to LCE, ISE, T&E and Logistics for U.S. Navy diesel engines and related systems and components. In-depth knowledge of U.S. Navy shipboard marine main propulsion and auxiliary diesel engine systems and support equipment and U.S. Navy policy governing this equipment. In-depth knowledge and experience with the U.S. Navy Diesel Readiness System (DRS). In-depth knowledge and experience with the U.S. Navy Diesel Engine Inspector (DEI) shipboard inspection process. In-depth knowledge (including maintenance and operation) of Fairbanks Morse U.S. Navy diesel engines (Colt-Pielstick PA6B, PC2.5V, FM OP, and Alco). In-depth knowledge of U.S. Navy diesel engine logistics including?Planned Maintenance System (PMS), Maintenance Requirements Cards (MRCs), Maintenance Index Pages (MIP), Engineering Operational Sequencing Systems (EOSS), Engineering Operational Procedures (EOP), Engineering Operational Casualty Control (EOCC), Allowance Parts Lists (APL), Allowance Equipment List (AEL), Technical Manuals (TM), Depot Level Maintenance standards (DLMS), Technical Repair Specifications (TRS) and U.S. Navy diesel training requirements.
