This position, Assistant Director, Legal Activities Group, within JMD Budget Staff, leads a dynamic team of budget professionals to formulate, present, defend, and monitor budgets of litigating and grant-making components of the DOJ, and manages nonappropriated funds. AD/LAG is responsible for a wide range of budget and program issues affecting the DOJ and represents the DOJ in budget matters before various outside organizations like the Office of Management and Budget and Congressional Staff.

The duties and responsibilities for a AD/LAG generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Supervise a group of employees performing work at various grade levels. Plan and implement broad policy direction in the formulation and justification of budgets. Recommend solutions to budget formulation, justification, presentation, and execution problems related to single- or multi-year appropriations. Prepare statistical evidence and justification in support of budget requests. Coordinate all phases of budgeting needed to formulate budget requests for multi-year programs.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
  • You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Supervisory Budget Analyst at (GS-0560-15), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Applying budget planning processes as it relates to the budget life cycle (e.g. budget preparation, presentation and defense, authorization and accountability); AND Executing financial documents according to the spend plan, identifying discrepancies and providing recommendations to mitigate issues.
