You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN (INSTRUCTOR) in the RADIATION HEALTH DIVISION of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will plan, develop and coordinate dosimetry related training for physical science technicians within the Radiation Health Division. You will document and maintain training records for dosimetry physical science technicians. You will write and maintain local dosimetry procedures to conform to current standards and requirements. You will assist in the management of emergency response training. You will advise management on the status of dosimetry training.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You must qualify/be qualified as a DT-702/PD dosimetry processor and NVLAP Signatory. A Signatory is an individual who is designated by a laboratory and deemed competent by NVLAP to sign accredited laboratory tests or calibration reports.

Qualifications

GS-11 - For Applicants who are current or prior Federal service employees: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying the functions and objectives of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, Radiation Health, and the requirements and principles for developing and implementing instructional courses. Experience maintaining strong theoretical and practical knowledge of dosimetry devices, information systems, and submarine design. Experience training division, department, and ships force personnel on dosimetry related material by writing exams and reports, reviewing tests and changes to requirements, and documenting and maintaining training records. Experience providing support and technical and administrative assistance to the fleet, dosimetry laboratory, and management. GS-11 - For Outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal service). Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying the functions and objectives of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, Radiation Health, and the requirements and principles for developing and implementing instructional courses. Experience maintaining strong theoretical and practical knowledge of dosimetry devices, information systems, and submarine design. Experience training division, department, and ships force personnel on dosimetry related material by writing exams and reports, reviewing tests and changes to requirements, and documenting and maintaining training records. Education

GS-11: There is no substitution of education for experience at this grade level.

GS-09: Applicants may substitute the following education for experience at this grade level:

Successful completion of two full years of graduate education

or

Successful completion of a master's degree

One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
