This position will be assigned to the Equestrian Center located at JBSA Fort Sam Houston in SAN ANTONIO TEXAS.
This is a Regular Part Time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week, scheduled as needed, may work up to 40 hrs./week.
Employees appointed to a Regular category position are eligible for benefits.
Duties
Works cooperatively with the Equestrian Center Manager to run the day to day operations of the Equestrian Program. The Instructor will coordinate and facilitate year round riding lessons and activities for children and adults with varying abilities. The Instructor will work with the Center staff to develop new activities which would include holiday and weekend programs and MWR/FSS special events. Instruct participants in riding horses. Work with all seats and levels of riders, to include jumping. Organizes classes, lesson plans, determines skill and knowledge levels of participants. Keeps horses clipped and schooled and keeps tack room clean, organized and in working order. Responsible for preparation of horses and cooling down. Assists with overseeing and maintenance of the facility where the horses are cared for and can be required to assist with private owner boarders. Must be able to interact on a professional level at all times.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing. Must have a valid drivers license.
- Must be able to lift objects weighing 50 lbs.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Certification from a national riding instruction program. An undergraduate degree with a major course of study in the subject matter area related to the position to be filled.
OR
Experience that provided evidence to instruct students in the use of equipment, principles, or practices of the subject or occupation. This experience may have been gained as a teacher or instructor, in on-the-job supervision or instruction of subordinates or fellow workers; or in work involving application of the principles, practices, and techniques of the occupation or subject matter field of the position to be filled.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of Equine or familiarity with training of equine.
2. Great Customer Service.
3. Be familiar with the use of Western/English tack/riding lessons
4. Ability to instruct students in the use of equipment, principles, or practices of the subject or occupation.
