About the Position: Serves as resident instructor for food science, food safety, and quality assurance inspection procedures for US Army Medical Center of Excellence, located on Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Duties

Instruct a wide variety of topics related to food protection. Responsible for all training preparation and ensures that training materials are available. Serves as a primary point of contact with industry and trade associations to maintain expertise on common industry practices. Provides advice on food inspection and food quality, to include development of novel methodologies. Provides classroom instruction for Initial Entry Training (IET), Advanced Leader Course (ALC), Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC), Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC), Captains Career Course (CCC), functional courses and workshops.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes performing duties as resident instructor for food science, food safety, and quality assurance inspection procedures; develop and instruct on courses related to current practices and issues to the Veterinary Service and its customers; provide classroom instruction on food inspection and food quality; and assist in the review of regulations and the development of policies and doctrines. The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, education, instructional design, or training and development. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education / Training Program AdministrationInstructional DesignOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
