You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN in the Service Shop (Code 990) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901, Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will install, maintain, modify, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electrical equipment, systems, and components. You will install temporary distribution systems that provide electrical power to a variety of electrically operated tools and equipment, shipboard systems, temporary lighting, and temporary field offices. You will plan and layout the routing, placement, type, size of electrical cables, transformers, distribution panels, control panels, safety switches, service trees, and misc. equipment. You will determine the amount and type of material and places request to have material delivered. You will perform preventive maintenance and repair on electrical temporary service equipment. You will troubleshoot defective equipment and take necessary corrective action. You will perform assembly and modifications which requires drilling, tapping, and cutting metal, plastic, and phenolic materials.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. I am able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: installing maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of electrical equipment, systems, and components; planning and laying out the routing, placement, type, and size of electrical equipment. Performing maintenance and repair on electrical temporary service equipment; installing and maintaining electrical systems and equipment; interpreting and apply blueprints, schematics, specifications, procedures, and service manuals; perform maintenance and repair on electrical temporary service equipment; understanding the National Electric Code and the safety precautions, principals and work methods of the electrical trade.
