About the Position: This position is located Critical Care/Trauma Surgery department, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. A recruitment incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Provide technical, administrative, clerical, and office automation support to the Program Director and Associate Program Director of the Surgical Critical Care/Acute Care Surgery Fellowship and the General Surgery Residency Program. Provide technical and administrative support in the areas of accreditation, program requirements, and academic records. Design, compile, and distribute evaluations to ensure completion of rotation evaluations, staff evaluations, rotation critiques, intern and resident rotation critiques, self-evaluations, and research evaluations for each resident. Respond to inquiries from fellowship candidates and provide information relevant to the program, such as rotations. Provide assistance to the Program Director/Associate Director in planning/developing Continuing Medical Education programs, fellowship didactic sessions, training committee meetings, and other faculty meetings, in accordance with operating standards. Provide administrative support to the Program Director, including scheduling of meetings, preparation of agendas, recording and maintaining meeting minutes, development of reports and provision of data to the various program committees. Prepare annual budget proposal, maintain budget data and track use of funds, and coordinate purchase of educational materials/training aids. Maintain several databases in support of the Surgical Critical Care/ Acute Care Surgery Fellowship program.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing automated computer software, scheduling meetings and appointments on leaderships behalf, and assisting with day-to-day functions of a fellowship training program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
