About the Position: This position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE), Fort Moore, Ga. The MCOE is located 100 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia, and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Public transportation and free parking are available.
Duties
Process current deaths of personnel such as service members and their dependents, Department of the Army Civilians (DACs), active duty National Guard and Army Reservist in order to manage all mortuary incidents.
Validate that mortuary specifications are properly negotiated by procurement personnel with the funeral home to ensure all procedures are followed.
Evaluate allowable costs for payment of expenses such as memorial services, funeral and interment expenses, and transportation, recovery, and storage charges for deceased individuals.
Monitor all mortuary contracts within the area of operations from inception to conclusion to ensure all requirements are met.
Determine the primary next of kin (NOK) based on regulatory criterion to direct the disposition of remains upon notification of death.
Inspect deceased service member remains to ensure fulfillment of specific mortuary contract requirements.
Provide items such as complete uniform, all insignia, name tags, flags, and other necessary items for the deceased prior to the transportation of remains.
Respond inquiries from personnel such as family members, congressional personnel as well as government and non-government agencies pertaining to the care and disposition of remains.
Initiate corrective action regarding contractor performance when situations of nonconformance to contract specifications occur to recommend penalties, changes, or termination for cause.

- Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- The employee must maintain training in applicable policies, techniques, tactics and procedures.
- Employee will be required to work irregular tours of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Performs 24-hour casualty assistance duties and must be immediately available to respond.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Processing disposition cases by researching and coordinating with appropriate offices to obtain information about the death; Providing information to personnel such as next of kin regarding entitlements involving the removal, preparation, transportation and interment of remains; Arranging for the transportation and escort of human remains; Conducting briefings regarding funeral escort procedures and responsibilities to personnel assigned escort duty. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07) or equivalent.

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, etc.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
