This position is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the operational status of the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and related hardware and software, such as the Voice Recognition System. Additionally, this individual will act as a liaison in digital imaging initiatives within the department and other departments.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible for day-to-day operation of PACS and Voice Recognition equipment, including image workflow, archiving, interfaces, auto routing, prefetching, and other related activities
Investigates and troubleshoots specific operational problems related to PACS and digital image distribution within all clinical operational areas
Assists in the development of operating standards, policies, and procedures
Works closely with radiology's quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes, which include further integration into operations
Assists with overseeing and coordinating strategic planning for medical imaging initiatives
Acts as liaison between radiology and other departments related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assists with existing or new medical imaging endeavors
Responsible for PACS budget preparation and monitoring of the operating budget
Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new PACS-related systems, as well as interfacing of new imaging equipment to PACS
Prepares reports for administration on all aspects of digital imaging operations
Performs other functions as required and/or assigned
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications of this position, all applicants must meet at least one of the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes practical knowledge of the workflow and processes within a hospital/medical facility Imaging Department as it relates to digital image acquisition and management; understanding electronic data storage concepts including data archiving and communication systems; and developing application programs for a variety of software applications; and utilizing knowledge of digital imaging concepts, including image matrix size, monitor resolution, grayscales/color scales, etc. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~
EDUCATION: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field of study that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. COMBINATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level.
