You will serve as a General Supply Specialist in the Fleet Operations Department of NAVSUP FLC SD GF. This announcement uses the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform general supply specialist work and handle supply and logistic issues. You will provide direct supply, logistics, husbanding, training and other support for ships. You will analyze and recommend various solutions to solve material support problems. You will evaluate customer transportation requirements for personnel and materials and obtain access to necessary modes of transportation. You will visit ships in port daily. You will gather data concerning the adequacy of services provided, identify areas of improvement or additional services. You will develop and maintain a comprehensive history of customer requests and resolutions on a database.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to possess the ability to drive vehicles up to 2 and 1/2 ton capacity.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Incumbent “may” be coded as “key” and as such may be required be removed from their military recall status. A signed statement of understanding is required.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift license.
  • You will be required to lift up to 40lbs in weight.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of General Supply Specialist experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying knowledge of supply principles and logistics infrastructure concepts related to direct supply materials. Examples should include some or all of the following; 1) Analyzing and recommending solutions to solve material support problems; 2) Responding to requests for logistics support; 3) Assisting with coordinating delivery from alternative sources of supply; 4) Assisting with determining current and future supply requirements; 5) Creating and tracking supply requests and requisitions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.

Master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
