About the Position: The position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Director of Administration, Patient Administration Records/Outpatien in Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio Texas.

Duties
Quantify the extent of over or under coding on patient encounters to include outpatient, ambulatory procedures, inpatient professional services rounds, inpatient consults and inpatient.
Recommend changes to processes and procedures when required to meet goals and objectives.
Conduct random audits for monthly Commander's Data Quality Statement and reports findings and recommendations as required.
Identify correct principal diagnosis and principal procedure based on physician's medical record documentation and established sequencing rules and guidelines.
Assist clinical service lines in optimizing outpatient medical coding, including identification of most appropriate codes and the mapping and measurement of outpatient medical coding processes.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes knowledge with office administration such as coding procedures, personnel management, record keeping, research, medical auditing, and data analysis in a healthcare setting.
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
