You will serve as a Quality Assurance Specialist (Materials & Processes) in the Quality Assurance Office, Nondestructive Testing Division (Code 135) of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will analyze and assess materials with known, potential or suspected fatigue characteristics. You will perform quality assurance reviews and evaluate and inspect work performed and annotate deficiencies. You will provide input for resolution of quality assurance problems. You will utilize knowledge of theory and practical experience to provide input for the development of procedures for non-destructive testing. You will utilize quality assurance testing techniques and procedures to determine part conformity to specified standards.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed both in and outside of industrial areas of the shipyard and at off-station sites including aboard Naval ships and in dry docks.
  • Work requires regular visits to work sites and includes standing for extended periods of time, walking, bending and carrying and/or lifting of items weighing 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree with major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or another field related to the position.
OR
Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree with major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or another field related to the position.
OR
Obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
OR
Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
