You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and Air Systems, Code 252 of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.

Duties

You will serve as Technical Coordinator Team Leader or Subject Matter Expert (SME) with responsibility for functional checks, test and inspection, and material condition assessment of major systems. You will represent the command in the inspection and functional check/demonstration of major systems on new construction ships or major conversions. You will have principal responsibility for determining state of operability and contractors' compliance with installation objectives for the system(s) assigned. You will provide direction of test programs and evaluations of repairs required in situations of major damage or deterioration. You will perform special engineering analyses and studies in support of COMPACFT, NAVSEASYSCOM or ISEA to develop or evaluate improvements in design, maintenance procedures, material, etc. You will have a primary responsibility for familiarizing operators with procedures involved and indoctrinating organizational-level maintenance personnel in troubleshooting techniques, maintenance policies, etc.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: analyzing engineering disciplines (such as electronic, mechanical and pneumatic) by providing and resolving complex shipboard system problems to ensure efficiencies on subsystems.
