You will serve as an Engineering Technician in the Fleet Support Team, FST Engineering Division of FLTREADCEN EAST, supporting HX-21 CH-53K Follow-On Test and Evaluation (FOT&E). This announcement uses the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform maintenance and design engineering tasks on a variety of aircraft structures and systems. You will provide aircraft engineering services in support of troubleshooting, rework, repair, maintenance, inspection and modification/redesign of aircraft structures, systems, and components You will coordinate material or hardware substitutions with engineers and metallurgists. You will investigate and resolve complex technical problems related to the rework/repair of aircraft discrepancies/malfunctions and unprecedented service difficulties. You will review fleet requests for investigations, assess if investigations are warranted, and perform detailed engineering evaluations and investigations. You will assemble, correlate, develop, and issue engineering specifications concerning novel and unusual problems in the processing, rework or repair of supported systems and components.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting with preparation of engineering instructions for safety, mission and reliability changes; 2) Developing solutions for challenging fleet issues and in service repairs and/or improvements for rotary wing aircraft; 3) Working in diverse teams; and 4) Communicating clearly with internal and external customers.
