About the Position: Serves as the Chief of Protocol for U.S. Army South (ARSOUTH) and is the subject matter expert and technical advisor for all protocol matters.
Duties
Independently plans, manages, coordinates, and carry out the requirements of the command protocol program to support the visits of dignitaries.
Plans, directs, manages, and supervises program operations and activities for the command group.
Manages and administers the overall command protocol program, which encompasses program development, program planning, program evaluation, and budget implementation.
Directs office operations and activities, with full technical authority on materials and actions pertaining to protocol functions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- TDY travel is required up to 25% of the time.
- Travel requires official passport, immunizations and personnel recovery training in accordance with USARSOUTH policies. Must comply with DoD Foreign Clearance Guide, US Southern Command, US Army South and MILGP requirements for entry into country.
- This position requires personal attendance at hosted social and official functions involving extended work hours on holidays, weekends, and throughout the work week.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Experience utilizing pertinent laws, regulations, policies and precedents which affect the use of program and related support resources (people, money, or equipment) in the area of protocol; experience utilizing wide range of concepts, principles, and practices in foreign and U.S. protocol; experience planning and administering complex protocol and social functions hosted by senior members or senior leadership for high level distinguished visitors in accordance with regulatory guidance; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with personnel to accomplish protocol objectives; Implement and execute budget expenditures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
