This position is in the Behavioral Health Service Line located at the Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Healthcare System within VISN 6 Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network. This incumbent in this position serves as a Program Support Assistant for the various programs and s/he provides clerical, administrative and program support services to the service line.

Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to: Coordinates and provides administrative support; Schedules and manages appointments; Receives visitors and phone calls both for the service and the service Chief; Composes and prepares correspondence, forms, letters, memos, reports, computer-related data, specifications, and similar material; Coordinates meetings; Composes and distributes meeting minutes; Maintains office supplies and equipment; Serves as the timekeeper for the service; Receives and reviews all incoming correspondence; and Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/05/2023. You may qualify based on your specialized experience and/or graduate education as described below: Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled? Examples of specialized experience includes but is not limited to: performs a full range of clerical and administrative support duties for an office; handles and receives visitors and phone calls; reviewing and tracking all incoming and outgoing correspondence and memoranda; scheduling meetings, appointments and calendars for the service; and utilizes office automation software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, OneNote, MS Teams, and PowerPoint) to create correspondence, memoranda and reports ensuring proper format and free from grammatical errors. [Note: Applicants must fully document their experience on resumes and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates, full-time/part-time work, and hour worked per week.]; OR, Graduate Education: Applicants must have successfully completed one-half (1/2) year of full-time graduate education directly related to the position to be filled in an accredited college or university? [Note: Applicants must have completed one-half (1/2) year of full-time graduate study (9 semester hours or 13.5 quarter hours if such information cannot be obtained) in an accredited college or university.] (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED); OR, Combination: Applicants must have successfully completed equivalent combinations of specialized experience as stated above and graduate education as stated in above to meet the total experience requirements at the GS-6 grade level for this position. [Note: For example, the applicant has 5 months of specialized experience and 7 semester hours of full-time graduate education directly related to the position to be filled. The applicant meets 42 percent of the required experience and 78 percent of the required education. Therefore, the applicant meets 100 percent or more of the requirements and is qualified for the position.] (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED). As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Typing Proficiency Requirements: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements above, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their typing proficiency requirement of 40 words per minute. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test. 40 words per minute typing speed Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is basically sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Work Environment: The work environment is in a typical office setting. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts and requires normal safety precautions typical of such places as meeting and training rooms, libraries, or commercial vehicles. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
