Duties

Oversee the work of Telecommunication Specialist who develop, implement, and instruct the unit's Program of Instructions for special operations communications and equipment. Review additions or modifications to existing systems, documents changes and develops new layouts according to equipment changes and new installations. Develop and maintain a Program of Instruction (POI) and instruct sending and receiving of radio message traffic supporting student training at the US Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. Coordinate training programs with various supervisors and with the consideration of training prerequisites, unit readiness, and individual development. Provide advice, instruction and assistance in communications systems to Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne) students (Special Forces Candidates and Allied Nation students), contractors and civilian employees. Serve as a Supervisory Telecommunications Specialist.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 30% of the time.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and overtime.
  • This position is subject to uncommon tours of duty and/or shift work.
  • Must be able to deploy for periods of up to several weeks, frequently (4-6 times) throughout the year.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that includes experience 1) Managing the installation and modification of telecommunication systems; 2) Providing technical advice to the staff, officials and network users on telecommunication equipment to transmit information; 3) Evaluating the impact for telecommunications equipment changes to include security, continuation of operation plans, and software implications on installation; 4) Performing full range of supervisory duties for subordinate personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
