This Secretary position is in Nursing, Mental Health services at the White River Junction VA Medical Center, located at the White River Junction, Vermont location. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.
Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to provide a wide array of administrative and project support to the Inpatient Mental Health service. The secretary is responsible for a wide variety of administrative program functions necessary to the smooth management of the Inpatient Mental Health Service and ranges from correspondence, information control and communication and customer support.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Maintain office compliance regarding regulations, policies, and guidelines as established.
Execute and prepare responses to routine correspondence and reports.
Utilize a range of software applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) to prepare correspondence.
Utilize a range of office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, telephone, etc.).
Schedule and review work activities performed in an office, including reporting and record keeping.
Maintain employee records and time cards.
Work Schedule: Full-time, 0730-1600 Monday-Friday

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/02/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Maintaining employee records, preparing travel arrangements for staff, maintaining files and reports, scheduling meetings and taking meeting minutes, utilizing a range of office equipment to include phone, copier, fax, etc.. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years of education beyond a high school diploma. The education must be in a field that will equip the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position being filled. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application to receive credit for this substitution) OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school. (NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application to receive credit.)
Preferred Experience: Customer Service experience preferred, 1 year of clinical experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary with considerable computer and keyboard work. The work includes some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as files, papers and books.
Work Environment: The work environment involves the normal risks and stresses typical in an office environment which supports an extremely busy clinical service with various professional staff.
