Duties

Major Duties of the Position: This position serves as the Director of Culture and Climate, and performs faculty duties within the Dean of Faculty (DF), United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). Oversees DF's efforts involved with the reduction of sexual harassment and violence (SH&V) and Interpersonal and Self-Directed Violence (ISDV), and promotion of dignity, respect, belonging, organizational culture, resiliency, and other related activities. Serves as the senior culture and climate advisor to the Dean of the Faculty, Vice Dean, Senior Associate Dean, and other senior leaders. Oversees the creation, implementation, assessment, and modification of culture and climate strategies throughout DF and collaborates with other stakeholders across USAFA. Teaches undergraduate courses in DF, performs assigned duties, and participates in course and curriculum development.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctoral degree or other terminal degree (e.g., juris doctor). Knowledge of research, scholarship, assessment, and best practices related to culture and climate and reduction of SH&V/ISDV. Experience with inclusive pedagogies and research within higher education. Strong understanding of cultural inclusion practices and the ability to apply them to a variety of situations. Exemplary written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and listening skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and strategically about complex issues related to culture and climate and SH&V prevention. Strong proficiency in establishing and maintaining relationships and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders internal and external to organizations. Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students, faculty, and staff. ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: Social Sciences or any related disciplines; culture and climate and SH&V/ISDV experience is more important than a specific discipline for the doctorate/Juris Doctorate/ terminal degree. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least three years (for AD-1720-23) to six years (for AD-1720-24) of specialized experience developing culture and climate and/or SH&V reduction strategies and plans; including gathering program metrics and preparing briefs/reports/presentations; monitoring trends, metrics, and demographics, and recommending improvements; evaluating programs for compliance; and collaborating with other DEI specialists and stakeholders. Expertise in curriculum design and assessment. Experience with mental health issues/resources and military support agencies/programs. Leadership experience effectively working with people from diverse backgrounds in small and large groups. Exceptional organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills. Demonstrated ability to be proactive, establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously. Military knowledge and familiarity (desired Air Force-specific knowledge). Familiarity with solving problems within a military or undergraduate population in a campus residential setting.
