The employee will serve as a Medical Administration Specialist, at the Omaha VA Medical Center-VA Nebraska-Western Iowa HCS, in Omaha, NE. The Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) represents the Medical Center Director in all administrative matters occurring when assigned to other than a normal tour of duty.
Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Resolves administrative matters and manages responsibilities independently.
Provides administrative guidance and advice to clinical and/or administrative staff.
Interprets rules, regulations, policies and procedures to make sound decisions.
Identifies and analyzes problems or situations with a range of variables.
Interacts effectively with a variety of individuals with tact and diplomacy.
Communicates and treats customers in a courteous and respectful manner.
Completes assigned projects, studies, narrative and statistical reports, reviews in a thorough, accurate and timely manner.
Handles customer complaints in a constructive and professional manner.
Displays knowledge of medical programs and the understanding of how the different hospital departments inter-relate.
Handles and treats a wide variety of situations surrounding medical center and direct care of patients.
Resolves administrative issues surrounding patient care, patient death, seriously ill patients, medical emergencies and cost recovery matters.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, with a 40-hour work week. Work Schedule varies throughout the week and various times of the day to include overnights, weekends and holidays (work hours may be further discussed during interview process).

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service. This experience must have equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: resolving administrative matters and managing responsibilities;
providing administrative guidance and advice to clinical and/or administrative staff; interpreting rules, regulations, policies and procedures in order to make sound decisions; identifying and analyzing problems; and interacting effectively with a variety of individuals.
OR
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) - Applicants must possess at least 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) - Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

Physical Requirements: The work requires sitting and walking and occasionally the requirements to lift such objects as suitcases, clothing or medical charts as well as the emotional stability to handle stressful situation.
