Duties
Utilize training aids, approved computer based material/devices and advanced technological programs to execute, enhance, and troubleshoot training courses.
Stay up-to-date on knowledge of advanced medical subjects (standards of care) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) processes, practices, procedures that are pertinent and applied in the program of instruction.
Use the most suitable and effective method of training, i.e.; lectures, performance demonstration or discussions, as prescribed by the lesson plan or material presented to achieve desired lesson objectives or outcomes.
Assist in the development of instructional and EMT training programs for EMT, trauma treatment using the tenants of tactical combat casualty care, medical evacuation, trauma scenario development and warrior skills.
Develop course plans/outlines, produces or locates appropriate hand-out material, communicates the objectives of the course material, and ensures courses are evaluated upon completion.
Responsible in determining training methodologies selected will apply the most effective instruction to students in; Basic Life Support (BLS); EMT and limited primary care; advanced medical patient care; trauma skills (TC3); and field craft skills.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 100 pounds is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. Please attach certification records to application package.
- Must possess and maintain current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or higher certification. Please attach certification records to application package.
- Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.

Basic Requirements for Training Instructor (Combat Medic) GS-1712-09:Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes Medic, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic personnel in an academic or field setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, education or science fields.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
