The mission of the Office of Safety, Health, and Environment (OSHE) is to help reduce safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) risks at NIST by planning, developing and maintaining, supporting the implementation of, overseeing compliance with, and continually improving NIST's SH&E programs. In doing so, OSHE will enable NIST to carry out its mission effectively and efficiently while protecting the worker, the public, and the environment and complying with applicable laws and regulations.
Duties
Apply expert knowledge to manage agency-wide technical occupational safety and health programs.
Provide expert-level recognition, evaluation, and control of fall hazards and material handling hazards in scientific, construction and support services including but not limited to roofs, scaffolds, lifts, fixed ladders, cranes, hoists, and rigging.
Serve as the agency fall protection competent person.

- Merit applicants must meet time-in-grade/band requirements, as applicable
- Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination

Qualifications
All applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 (ZA-III at NIST) level.
Specialized experience is defined as:
Managing and implementing safety and occupational health programs with a focus on fall protection and material handling in a scientific or construction environment
Experience designing and delivering safety training
Experience in hazard abatement and the inspection and evaluation of safety equipment; with an emphasis on fall protection systems and materials handling, especially cranes
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
