The mission of the Office of Safety, Health, and Environment (OSHE) is to help reduce safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) risks at NIST by planning, developing and maintaining, supporting the implementation of, overseeing compliance with, and continually improving NIST's SH&E programs. I
Duties
Conduct Comprehensive Occupational Safety Health (OSH) inspections NIST-wide and interpret OSH requirements
Independently conduct inspection of construction and fire protection/life safety systems
Provide customer support; analyze inspection data for trends, identify gaps/needs, and advise leadership on strategies to improve the NIST OSH Management System
Requirements

- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
- Suitable for Federal employment
- Merit applicants must meet time-in-grade/band requirements, as applicable
- Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination

Qualifications
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY, ALL APPLICANTS MUST POSSESS:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 (ZA-III at NIST) level.
Specialized experience is defined as:
Identifying, evaluating, and controlling a wide variety of industrial hazards related to the full range of work operations
Conducting comprehensive occupational safety and health inspections
Interpreting and applying OSH requirements, standards and methodologies
Analyzing inspection data to identify trends, gaps and needs in the OSH management systems
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
