About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Department of Family Medicine, supporting the department with variety of administrative support services. Work is performed in an office setting Monday through Friday.
Duties
Provide administrative support and assistance to the Chief, Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) and staff members of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
Screen all calls and visitors, answering most questions and completing most business involving established policy or routing matters.
Serve as the recorder preparing agendas, final minutes, attendance roster, and action logs.
Make travel arrangements using Defense Travel System (DTS) for the Chief to include lodging and assists with preparing electronic vouchers upon complete of travel.
Keep abreast of changes in regulations and procedures involved in processing, changing and correcting all applicable administrative actions.
Research questions received from staff members involving problems and provides coordination with appropriate offices/personnel to resolve problems.
Require knowledge of system capabilities, limitations, commands, and keyboard prompts to input, retrieve, and manipulate data for producing a variety of reports, charts and listings.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; utilizing healthcare automated systems, maintaining records within a database and/or spreadsheet, and producing reports from various automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
