This position is located within the Pathology and laboratory Medicine Service, VAMC Huntington, West Virginia, and is the primary data analyst and administrative/transcription support for the department. The incumbent of this position also provides support within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service and will also be called upon by the Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Laboratory Manager and Supervisors to assist with projects falling within their knowledge and skill levels.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities will include: Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system and patient report record systems. Prepares reports, including patient reports, to assist with compliance monitoring for completion of the Pathology and laboratory Medicine programs which are reported to the facility as well as network leadership. Uses software applications to draw information to prepare/assist in preparation of reports. Assists in the planning, review and reporting of data/statistical results. Maintains and manages databases which contain a wide variety of Veteran specific information and provides analysis of such information. Performs a variety of administrative duties regarding computer lab supplies and uniform inventory, coordination of events and venues, and maintains records of each for reports to the VISN, Medical Center Director, and Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. Arranges government transportation, order supplies, equipment, etc. Receives telephone and visitors in a prompt and courteous manner. Makes appropriate referrals. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/15/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Maintaining calendars, appointments and schedules. Provides administrative support. Orders office supplies for service. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem. Performs proficient clerical and transcription support, ensuring appropriate administrative processes are maintained. Receives, refers and contacts members of the staff, agency and persons outside the agency ranging from other government agencies to the general public, acts as liaison to other managers and staff within the organization and provides accurate advice on procedures, reports, requirements and other matters necessary to implement the programs' policies, directives and instructions. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:Administration and ManagementClericalCommunicationComputer Skills Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The physical demands for this position involve walking, talking, use of telephone, etc. Strenuous physical activity is not required although the incumbent is expected to withstand pressure and stress as part of their day to day activities. Work Environment: The incumbent should observe normal safety precautions while working. Primary duty location is an office environment.
