About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation.
Duties
Serve as the technical and administrative supervisor over the Cadet Mess Warehouse.
Plan daily work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates.
Determine sequences for offloading materials and organize incoming shipments for maximum space utilization, safety considerations, and damage protection.
Operate forklifts capable of lifting 4,000 pounds, as high as 168 inches, to move, load or unload, transfer, transport, and stack or unstack palletized goods.
Operate motor vehicles on installation roads and training sites to make daily distribution runs, transport supplies and equipment between warehouses, work centers, post facilities, and training sites.
Perform operator's maintenance on vehicles being driven in accordance with standard procedures.
Interview candidates for vacancies, and recommend selections.
Establish performance standards and evaluate employees' performance on an annual basis.
Investigate employee grievances and complaints.
Identify employees training needs, and initiate recommendations to provide necessary training.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and annual examinations thereafter.
- This is a Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP). This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Applicants or employees selected for this position are covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program and must sign DA Form 5019 .
- This position has a requirement to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and lift and carry items weighing over 40 pounds with assistance.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state-issued Driver's License.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid forklift operator's license.
- This is a weather essential position, and the incumbent must report to work and/or remain in the position in bad weather, natural disasters, or other crisis.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year supervisory probationary period unless the appointee has previously met this requirement.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler Supervisor (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision which includes: (1) Supervising or leading Materials Handling work operations or other workers; (2) Determining the number and/or types of workers needed to accomplish tasks/projects; (3) Managing or leading warehouse operations and/or tasks; and (4) Reviewing completed work for quality and/or work order requirements. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Perform work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries supplies and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. Assistance is available from other workers and equipment for moving items over 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside warehouse in bin room, open storage areas and on receiving or shipping docks. Areas may be cold, drafty, damp or hot. Frequently exposed to scrapes, cuts and bruises. May be exposed to broken bones from falling stock or moving equipment. Required to wear safety equipment and clothing appropriate for this position. Required to work in walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
