About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City.

Duties

Receive, unload and process incoming shipment of items. Select and set proper storage areas for materials. Conduct warehouse inventories. Operate motor vehicles on installation roads and training sites to make daily distribution runs. Operate forklifts to move, load or unload palletized items from one location to another.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires passing a pre-employment physical examination and periodic physicals examinations.
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP). You must pass a pre-employment drug test, and are subject to random drug testing.
  • You must obtain and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • You must obtain and maintain a valid forklift operator's license.
  • You must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless you have previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

To include: (1) receiving items pertinent to a specific storage area, verifying quantity, and/or annotating receipt date on appropriate forms; (2) inspecting materials for obvious damages and/or performing minor repairs; (3) placing items in appropriate storage area using hand trucks, dollies, and/or other material handling equipment; and (4) conducting inventories. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. When working as a member of a team, you will often lift the heaviest objects with the assistance of another worker or workers. You will work inside and outside and will be subjected to heat, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted areas. You may work on open docks or storage yards. The work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. You will frequently be exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from material-handling equipment. You will be required to utilize and wear appropriate safety gear.
