About the Position: U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

Accesses and uses remote computer terminals and equipment to verify inventory levels, fill orders, and place stock to develop computer documentation and provide advice and assistance to customers. Downloads data obtained using bar-coding devices into the automated supply system mainframe. Maintains and implements improvement of supplies and equipment on docks, in hold, and in storage areas in line with good warehousing methods and practices to prevent damage, loss or injury to others. Makes daily deliveries and obtains signature for items issued to customers. Performs inventory of items and verifies items being transferred/turned in as excess. Employee operates platform truck and cargo vans to pick up and deliver materials and equipment to various locations at West Point, and within the assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a forklift operator’s license within 90 days of start of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver’s license.
  • This position requires successful passing of pre-employment physical.

Receive, load and unload, process shipments/items and inspecting materials for obvious damages. Operate a computer software program to record issues and/or turn-ins and use hand trucks, dollies, electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklifts commercial and rough terrain models. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require the worker to stand, stoop, bend and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls when driving, turning, stopping and starting the forklifts and motor vehicles and raising, lowering and tilting the forklift loads. When operating large forklifts over rough terrain, extra physical effort may be required due to equipment vibrations. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. un-assisted. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside in areas that are hot, cold, drafty or poorly lighted and ventilated. May work in adverse weather in such outside areas as open docks and storage yards subject to exposure to dust, dirt and weather from cold to hot temperatures. Cuts, bruises and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, falling objects or accidents with other moving equipment.
