About the Position: Serves as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy to the Commanding General (DTCG) and the Command Sergeant Major (CSM), Headquarters, US Army Medical Center of Excellence, located at Fort Sam Houston, TX. This is a Developmental position may be filled at the GS-07 or GS-08 grade level.

Duties

Provides administrative support for the Deputy to the Commanding General (DTCG) and the Command Sergeant Major (CSM). Assists the Command Sergeant Major (CSM) with NCO/Soldier of the Year Boards, the Sergeant Audie Murphy Board, and other various boards. Coordinates and organizes the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence/Fort Sam Houston Recognition Ceremonies. Advises staff members of Command Group on current issues affecting the organization. Types a wide variety of correspondence including but not limited to; letters, memoranda, and other correspondence based on conferences, meetings, etc. Prepares travel orders and itineraries, makes reservations, and process completed travel orders using automated travel systems. For designated projects, establishes and maintains database records of forecasted project milestones and other data elements.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving and screening visitors and telephone calls to determine nature of call or visit; preparing documents, reports and correspondence for use in meeting and briefings; maintaining staff calendars and schedules for meetings and appointments; serving as recorder for a variety of organizational executive meetings; making travel arrangements; answering basic questions regarding correspondence, awards, personnel issues, and refers technical issues to the appropriate staff member(s). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes using protocol procedures to include proper etiquette and military customs and courtesies for distinguished visitors to plan formal/informal functions; communicating with high-level military and civilian government, industrial and civic officials; coordinating special activities, events, ceremonies and official visits; analyzing incoming and outgoing correspondence to determine importance and route to the appropriate department for action; maintaining leader's calendar for conferences, briefings, hearings, speaking engagements, etc; coordinating, creating and reconciling travel and lodging for personnel through automated government travel system such as Defense Travel System (DTS); ensuring all time and attendance data is correct in accordance with the Defense Civilian Pay System. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
