About the Position: Serve as the Security Officer for the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8 (G-8) and the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Financial Management and Comptroller (ASA, FM&C).
Duties
Provide authoritative information and assistance to management officials by advising on personnel security policies and other related issues.
Review and evaluates personnel security files to determine whether to suspend or restrict security clearances in the interest of national security.
Develop and implement procedures to ensure all assigned personnel who handle classified material are appropriately instructed, cleared, and have a need for access.
Coordinating with the Facility Security Officer (FSO) to ensure industrial or other private facilities have the required facility clearance to work with and store classified and sensitive information.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position may require occasional temporary duty (TDY) travel.
- This is a testing designated position. Personnel are required to sign DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as critical under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program).
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.

GS-12: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with reviewing, analyzing and/or resolving complex security requirements related to security concepts, principles and/or practices; providing assistance in interpretation of various security polices such as: personnel, physical and /or information security; and assisting in developing and/or conducting high level briefings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
GS-13 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP) billets to include preparation for justification of new or additional billets; review government contracts and performance work statements to ensure the appropriate security requirements are included; review and evaluate personnel security files to determine whether to suspend or restrict security clearances in the interest of national security. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12)
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
