The purpose of the work is to perform limited electrical work and to assist journeyman electricians. The position is located at the Loch Raven VA Medical Center, a Department of VA Maryland Health Care System.

Duties

Major Duties: Performs repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing of fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and outlets, loose connections and fittings, and inoperable light fixtures. Assist journeyman electricians on assignments involving the installation or repair of more complex electrical systems. Relamping lighting systems, replacing defective light fixture ballasts, wall switches, outlets, and check circuit continuity. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00AM to 3:30PM Position Description Title/PD#: Electrical Worker/PD23180O Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and in hard-to-reach places. This requires the employees to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The electrical worker frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds and sometimes over 40 pounds. New installation and renovation work may require work at other than normal administrative business hours.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
