This position serves as a Financial Management Specialist in the Department of Justice, Justice Management Division, Office of the Controller, Budget Staff, General Administration and Financial Management Group (GAFMG) with administrative responsibility for assigned financial management functions/programs.

The duties and responsibilities for a Financial Management Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following:
Analyze and monitor general ledger account activity.
Review financial reports, correspondence, internal/external payments, and reimbursable agreements for potential problems.
Provide guidance pertaining to commitments and obligations, reimbursable accounts and orders, and unmatched disbursements.
Advise management of problems or trends, and make recommendations for corrective action.
Provide recommendations for procedures on reconciliation of data between local/logistical and accounting automated databases.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
- You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.
- Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Financial Management Specialist at (GS-0501-9/11), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to.
If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information).
Specialized Experience: For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Using a financial management system to input, adjust, and analyze financial data; Advising on financial management procedures and regulations as it pertains to official travel obligations, expenditures, or accruals; AND Collaborating with stakeholders or peers to solve problems or meet a mutually agreeable objective.
OR
Education: Master's degree (or equivalent graduate degree such as a L.L.B./J.D.) or two (2) academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the GS-9. Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Using a financial management system to input, adjust, and identify administrative problems to improve internal program operations, policies, or procedures; Advising or resolving problems on financial management procedures and regulations as it pertains to official travel obligations, expenditures, account payables, accruals, or reimbursements; Interpreting and applying appropriation law, federal travel regulations; AND Collaborating with stakeholders or peers to provide authoritative advice or meet mutually agreeable objective on financial and travel matters.
OR
Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree or three (3) academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M. if related.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for a GS-11. Only graduate education in excess of the first two years may be used to qualify.
