This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent performs security, programmatic security and administrative tasks in support of the Integrated Joint Special Technical Operations (IJSTO). The incumbent also develops or assists with the development and implementation of security policies and procedures that protect classified information in support of IJSTO.

Duties

As a SECURITY SPECIALIST at the GS-0080-12 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as the central Billet Access Request (BAR) manager with responsibility for overseeing and processing Special Access Program (SAP) billets; BARs and BAR program access requests; IJSTO billet structures; Program Access Requests (PARs); and related materials managed and required by the Joint Staff (JS) for the entire ISJTO community. Serves as an advisor to the Chief, Programs Branch, Chief Program Support Division, and to other officials within the JS, the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the military services, the combatant commands (COCOMs), and combat support agencies on a wide range of IJSTO security issues. Reviews and analyzes SAP and other security policies and procedures for Division IJSTO support. Develops or assists in the development and implementation of IJSTO security policies and procedures in order to protect classified information. Leads or analyzes a variety of security problems, questions, conditions and special studies that result in changes to existing IJSTO security systems and operations.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service: Applying federal security concepts, executive orders, policies, and intelligence agency directives, the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) overprint, directives, regulations, and manuals governing security programs and operations; Utilizing security program relationships to include personnel and physical security, Special Access Program (SAP) processes and procedures, sufficient to coordinate and maintain the Integrated Joint Special Technical Operations (IJSTO) security goals, objectives, and plans of the office; Conducting various analyses and evaluations, including cost benefit and similar type of analyses; Interpreting new regulations, changes to regulations and formulating and recommending new policies or changes to policies for the Division. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
