About the Position: This position serves as a Medical Support Assistant, Naval Hospital Jacksonville, OB/GYN dept. The position will be that of Front Desk Clerk and will serve as back-up to the Surgical Scheduler.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in Department of Defense (DoD) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Greets patients entering clinic.
Check patients in for appointments, confirms and verifies Tricare Eligibility via DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System).
Schedule patient appointments as required when leaving clinic or by telephone.
Triages telephone calls for providers based on urgency/necessity and dispositions accordingly.
Train and provide assistance to department personnel on all aspects of automated health systems used in the department.
Performs numerous administrative functions to include managing medical correspondence sent to or received from network providers, maintaining office equipment and supplies, and delivers mail as needed.
Trains clinic staff regarding front desk responsibilities.
Cover duties of surgical scheduler full-time in their absence.
Duties include managing computer based operating room schedule for assigned clinic.
Inputs all required and pertinent data ensuring patients are scheduled for MOR procedures.
Coordinates and schedules MOR patients for all required appointments in appropriate computer-based systems, to include all pre-operative and post-operative procedures related to the episode of care.
Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures with outlying hospitals under the ERSA (External Resource Sharing Agreement).
Orders and retrieves patient data, medical records, and test results via hospital computer-based systems and from external provider network and uploads into EHR.
Assist leadership in ensuring access to care standards is met and appointment utilization is maximized, which includes accessing and providing monthly reports.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A favorable Tier 3 background investigation is required for all Non-Critical Sensitive (NCS) positions with access to network systems and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Mandatory Seasonal Influenza vaccination is required. - Incumbent will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience performing most of the following which includes: utilizing automated scheduling systems such as MHS Genesis/Cerner/EPIC; familiarity with basic medical terminology; exemplary interpersonal communication skills to communicate with patients and staff at all levels; and be detail oriented and able to multitask. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
