About the Position: The purpose of this position is to serve as a Medical Support Assistant, to carry out a variety of administrative and clerical duties related to patient care and treatment for Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Urology dept.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in Department of Defense (DoD) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Establish, enter data and maintain Urology clinic provider's schedules utilizing MHS Genesis and its components and other appropriate computer-based systems.
Maintain schedules, coordinate appointments and update providers schedules in MHS Genesis and its components and other computer-based systems.
Schedule, re-schedules and cancel medical appointments by utilizing MHS Genesis and its components and other computer-based systems.
Obtain identifying information and determine the nature of the patient's request.
Obtain and prepare the medical chart prior to the patient's appointment.
Refer patients that cannot be verified for eligibility to the Patient Administration and TRICARE.
Respond to patient?s questions and concerns for various procedures and appointments explaining any preparations needed.
Schedules all surgeries (Major and Minor) in the main operating room or minor procedure room, to include surgeries associated with the External Resource Sharing Agreement (ERSA) at local hospitals.
Assists Clinic Manager and Surgeons with outlying clinic patients and schedules.
Assists with department correspondence.
Prepares all electronic and paper pre-operative packages filling in all pertinent information, printing, labeling, and ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Coordinates and schedules MOR patients for all required appointments in appropriate computer-based systems, to include all pre-operative and post-operative procedures related to the episode of care.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A favorable Tier 3 background investigation is required for all Non-Critical Sensitive (NCS) positions with access to network systems and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Mandatory Seasonal Influenza vaccination is required. - Incumbent will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience performing most of the following which includes: Utilize Microsoft Office in a medical office setting; operate computerized programs and systems such as MHS GENESIS, to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive medical and patient personal identifiable information (PII) into or from electronic health records, scheduling systems, and/or reports; communicate and interact with patients in a courteous and helpful manner in order to give instructions and schedule medical appointments; collaborate, communicate, set priorities, and organize the work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations; utilize basic medical terminology to record patient messages and physician requests pertaining to follow-up medical care; receive telephone calls and visitors for a medical clinic; schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments; review patient records for necessary information patient demographics and insurance verification; consult with clinic staff when processing physician scheduling and administrative orders; and work independently in the accomplishment of a wide variety of duties performing patient support work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
