Duties

Develop equipment and associated programs of instruction in the Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Technician Program of the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) Develop training materials such as lesson plans, tests, simplified equipment manuals, student handouts. Teach students how to service specific biomedical electronic equipment with the aid of various test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment to include volt-ohmmeter, two-and-four trace storage oscilloscopes, logic probes, and microprocessor analyzers. Instruct in a variety of complex technical subject matter areas through formal lectures and practical exercises using lesson plans, student literature, and training aids. Instruct students in troubleshooting, testing, calibrating, installing, repairing, diagnosing malfunctions, and performing preventive maintenance of electronic, electrical, mechanical and/or computer-based medical systems. Develop, evaluate, and modify instructional program for any phase of instruction, as assigned.

Basic Requirements for Training Specialist (Biomedical Equipment Maintenance) GS-1712-11: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes: working in the field of biomedical equipment maintenance/repair that required training or instructing others on a regular basis; assisting in the development of training courses; and maintaining training aids, and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, Biomedical Equipment Technology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Note: It is preferred by management that qualified candidates have an Associate's degree or higher in Biomedical Equipment Technology; however, it is not required for referral.
