About the Position: Serve as a principal Safety and Occupational Health Specialist at the Division level of an Army Command or equivalent organization. The program embraces a diversity of high-risk factors to meet training and mission readiness requirements. The duties and responsibilities of this position require or authorize the individual to participate in the formulation, development, implementation, and enforcement of the Safety Program's policies, directives and regulatory guidance.

Duties

Develops action plans for safety support to include initiatives and milestones. Recommendsintegration of practical controls that reduce risks. Conducts independent inspections/surveys of activities throughout all phases of exercises/operations to evaluate planning, performance to standards, and effectiveness of established operational controls as described in the risk management plan. Conducts follow-up for those accidents of a recurring nature to identify trends and specific areas in need of extensive study. Provides assistance to the Safety Director in all aspects of the Division Command Safety Program. Discusses quality of safety programs, presents suggestions for improvements, and provides advice and assistance on technical safety issues.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening, and random drug testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a TDY requirement of up to 50% of the time or less at both CONUS and OCONUS.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty in CONUS and OCONUS field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments.
  • Exposed on a regular and recurring basis to machines and equipment in operation, hazardous materials including compressed gases and flammable liquids, and construction hazards.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission.
  • This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential" and is subject to deployment. May require employee to perform mission requirements in hostile environments.
  • Position is covered by the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 and may require the incumbent to have access to firearms.
  • Required to work outside, exposed to all weather conditions (e.g. foul weather, extreme hot and cold), and of unpredictable terrain or access.
  • This is a Career Program 12 position. Incumbent must complete all required training and achieve the CP-12 Level 1 and Explosives Safety Level 1 professional certificates within 12 months, or prior to deployment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position may require the incumbent to deploy with assigned unit for periods up 365 days.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid stateside driver?s license.
