Duties
Serves as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist responsible for planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating programs involving diverse industrial, field sites, laboratory and/or chemical safety and explosive occupational health.
Develops and revises safety, occupational health, and industrial hygiene instructions, rules and regulations applicable to chemical and and explosive research.
Monitors the safety program to determine compliance with the policies and regulations and the need for corrective actions or areas where improvements can be made.
Provides advisory safety services to project managers and laboratory supervisors.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 30% of the time.
- One year probationary period maybe required if not previously met.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) providing safety support of chemical, biological, and explosive programs; and 2) assisting in formulating hazard analysis or risk assessments for an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted..
