The primary purpose of this position is to provide vehicle control capabilities to the 88 Civil Engineering Directorate to ensure all vehicles are leased or purchased, accounted for, maintained, and replaced as needed: to serve as the vehicle control liaison with Wing and MAJCOM leadership; ensure CE skilled trades have proper vehicles and specialized equipment.

Duties

1. Manages, maintains, and organizes the activities of the vehicle and specialized equipment requirements for Civil Engineering Squadron, ensuring customer support complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer and mission needs. 2. Reviews, analyzes, and implements vehicle program as dictated by MAJCOM and base leadership. 3. Provides training validations and government vehicle and specialized equipment operator licenses and fuel key requests. 4. Provides guidance, direction, and training for Vehicle Control Coordinator. 5. Performs in-depth vehicle inspections.

Requirements

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include evenings and weekends and may be subject to recall for contingency or expeditionary support.
  • Work requires incumbent to go outside in all types of weather conditions to inspect vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level which includes experience in maintaining, retailing, purchasing, or procurement of automotive, rail, air, bus, or other transportation equipment or services, or in the operation of a commercial transportation facility or terminal. This experience must have demonstrated knowledge of fleet operations; familiarity with Federal, State, and municipal regulations governing the use of transportation vehicles; and the maintenance of inventories and cost computations. OR Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; education must have major field of study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science, marine affairs, marine engineering, marine transportation, or other fields related to the position. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation regulations, directives, standards, policies, and procedures pertaining to vehicle operations. 2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures related to general and special purpose vehicles. 3. Knowledge of established planning, scheduling, and dispatching support methods to carry out assignments. 4. Knowledge of the capacity and characteristics of a variety of transportation equipment. 5. Ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems, develop economical solutions autonomously and timely in a small to medium sized organization. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
