You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MATERIALS) in the NUCLEAR ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT (CODE 2305) of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will act as a QA representative in assigned nuclear auditing and process management matters (e.g., Nuclear Material Handling, Nuclear Metallurgy and Chemistry Control, Refueling, Radioactive Material Control, Contamination Control). You will contact planning yards, prime contractors, NAVSEA, NAVSUP or other authorities and proposes alternative methods and solutions. You will make frequent, thorough, inspections of nuclear facilities, procedures and workmanship, investigating/analyzing the results of those inspections and reporting to management. You will review and maintain historical information and records from past or similar work to incorporate process improvements, forecasting, and lessons learned. You will plan, develop, or administer quality assurance audit and surveillance reports of Shipyard activities engaged in nuclear work. You will research and review source documents, engineering drawings, databases, instructions, regulations and other technical information to verify status, and ensure systematic prevention of defects and non-conformances. You will make frequent, thorough, inspections of nuclear facilities, procedures and workmanship, investigating/analyzing the results of those inspections and reporting to management. You will conduct causal analysis to include assimilating event-related materials, developing timelines, cause maps, process maps, and lessons learned information. You will be responsible for reporting problems in assigned projects, organizations, and functions to managers/supervisors to assure the supervisor has timely knowledge of emergent problems/trends. You will manage CATS Action Items for Department level audits, surveillances, studies, and self-assessments.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: developing and implementing quality assurance plans (e.g. process audits and surveys) to evaluate quality trends in nuclear processes and recommending corrective actions for management to ensure compliance with program and technical requirements.
