The Nephrology/Renal Social Work Program Coordinator provides program management and oversees the overall operations of the Nephrology/Renal Social Work program. The incumbent also provides direct clinical services to Veterans. The incumbent assumes the supervisory and administrative responsibility for the management of the assigned social workers and program specialist who support and function within the Nephrology/Renal Social Work program.

Duties

Duties to include but not limited to: The Nephrology/Renal Social Work Program Coordinator provides leadership, direction orientation, coaching, in-service training, staff development, and continuing education programs for assigned social work and supportive staff. The Nephrology/Renal Social Work Program Coordinator administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to Veterans and families. Develops and implements information systems, including clinical guidelines and protocols, to track and establish service activities including visits, referrals, equipment utilization and Veteran satisfaction. The Nephrology/Renal Social Work Program Coordinator will oversee the employment of social work staff complete range of social work methods, individually or with groups. Providing services to patients and their families relating to the personal and psychosocial implications of medical and psychiatric disabilities, kidney disease and treatment. The Nephrology/Renal Social Work Program Coordinator will perform administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised. Incumbent will have established guidelines and performance expectations for staff, clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system and will complete or conduct the following: a. Observes workers' performance; b. Demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques; c. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance; d. Incumbent works to resolve informal complaints and grievances; e. Develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary; f. Provides advice and counsel to workers' related to work and administrative matters; g. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area; h. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests i. Incumbent assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. [Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, at the GS-12 grade level the following is also required: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Preferred Experience: Knowledge of program management and overall operations of Nephrology/Renal Social Work Program or similar. Ability and knowledge of Supervisory and Administrative responsibility for management of social workers and administrative personnel. Knowledge of policies and procedures of Veteran Health Administration Nephrology/Renal Social Work Program and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations and guidance. Ability and knowledge of Non-VA Community Care (NVCC) authorization processes for Hemodialysis care in the community. Ability to facilitate (organize, communicate and collaborate) interdisciplinary meetings at program, local VA and VACO level. Ability to report findings to facility/local leadership in prompt manner.
