You will serve as a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR in the Production Resources Department (Code 900), Production Workforce Development and Resource Manager (900B), Consolidated Training Division (Code 900T), Apprenticeship/Helper to Worker Training Branch (Code 900T.3) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will develop, revise, and adapt assigned courses.
You will modify teaching approaches for deficiencies of specific individuals.
You will prepare lesson plans and training materials based on course objectives.
You will provide instructions and training on ship overhaul and maintenance.
You will maintain training records and develop training reports.
Requirements

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience developing a curriculum that will instruct classroom participants to apply knowledge of education and training principles, techniques, and practices as it relates to dismantling, repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning and installing of a wide variety of marine machinery, equipment and systems such as propulsion machinery, propellers, rudders, cargo handling machinery and other floating craft is required
Experience effectively instructing others in the practical knowledge of the mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components of diverse marine machinery and the attachments.
Experience providing practical application of marine machinery theory integrated with safety, radiological, and other requirements.
Experience displaying knowledge and skill commensurate with that obtained upon completion of a 4 year apprenticeship or comparable formal or on-the job training in one of the following trades: machinist, marine machinery mechanic, toolmaker, boiler plant operator, or boilermaker.
Experience with classroom maintenance (i.e. researching, developing, establishing, updating, improving, etc.) of the marine machinery courses and participate in the development or substantial redesign of portions of courses.
Experience displaying detailed knowledge of the operating characteristics of the involved machinery, equipment, and systems; the functional relationships; the applicable installation and repair procedures, methods, and trade practices.
Experience applying technological changes and changes in the processes and procedures of work performed in the shipyard require incumbent to periodically overhaul the courses they teach and all associated material to accommodate changes and evolving work, as well as expand the scope of the courses already in place.
Experience incorporating latest developments and integrate subjects into instruction to maintain state-of-art-training.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
GS-11:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience
GS-9:
master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related
or
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience
